In 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri, Charles Lazier developed an entirely new soft drink which he named Sun-Drop. With the introduction of Sun-Drop an entirely new flavor category was born. |
1928 – 1970 |
Between the years 1928 and 1970, the drink was marketed in several southern states under the names of Sun-Drop Golden Cola, Golden Girl Cola and Golden Sun-Drop Cola. |
1970 – 1980 |
In 1970, the brand was acquired by Crush International. This enabled the brand to standardize its packaging and advertising thus creating a new image. Proctor and Gamble acquired Crush International and became the owners of the Sun-Drop trademark in 1980 |
1985-1989 |
Diet Sun-Drop was reformulated using 100% NutraSweet in 1985. The product had previously been made using saccharin. The same year, Cherry Sun-Drop was introduced in all markets where regular Sun-Drop was available. Sun-Drop joined the Cadbury Beverages family through the acquisition of Crush International in 1989. From this point, the brand has continued to flourish as a regional brand, popular in the south east part of the United States. |
2002 |
2002 Caffeine free Sun-Drop is introduced based on direct feedback from frequent Sun-Drop consumers. Caffeine free Sun-Drop mirrors the bold, citrus flavor of Sun-Drop while satisfying the request for a caffeine free version. |

In order to reach a broader client base and add competition to other citrus sodas on the market, Sun Drop Purchased 500 Vendors and added 2 routes to service. |
2005 |
To celebrate 75 years in business, Prescott Bottling Co. released an Anniversary commemorative can in 2005. |
2006 |
The demand for greater convenience created an opportunity for Sun Drop to add different sizes and types of bottles including adding a Long Neck Bottle and .5 liter bottles to various markets.

After studying the market, it was determined that a 12 oz. plastic bottle would add greater convenience to the fans of Sun Drop. In 2008 we added Sun Drop 12 oz. plastic bottles. |
2010 |
Added Sun Drop 8 oz. can. This size can is convenient for lunch boxes and travel. |
