Sun-Drop History
|
1928
In 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri, Charles Lazier developed an entirely new soft drink which he named Sun-Drop. With the introduction of Sun-Drop an entirely new flavor category was born.

1928 - 1970
Between the years 1928 and 1970, the drink was marketed in several southern states under the names of Sun-Drop Golden Cola, Golden Girl Cola and Golden Sun-Drop Cola.

|
1970 - 1980
In 1970, the brand was acquired by Crush International. This enabled the brand to standardize its packaging and advertising thus creating a new image. Proctor and Gamble acquired Crush International and became the owners of the Sun-Drop trademark in 1980.

|
1985 - 1989
Diet Sun-Drop was reformulated using 100% NutraSweet in 1985. The product had previously been made using saccharin. The same year, Cherry Sun-Drop was introduced in all markets where regular Sun-Drop was available.
Sun-Drop joined the Cadbury Beverages family through the acquisition of Crush International in 1989. From this point, the brand has continued to flourish as a regional brand, popular in the south east part of the United States.
